Hey guys! Loved the pod today! Glad we pulled out the W! I subscribed a week before the contest, but I’d love a T if you guys could pull some strings

Now that the draft coverage has settled, I was wondering if you guys could go back and grade some of the more recent draft classes, then compare some of the initial grades and analysis our draft classes have received. When I was thinking around this, I decided to go and look at our ‘14, ‘15 and ‘16 draft classes and give my opinion on how well we did. Would love some of your thoughts! Keep up the good work!

2014

1-31 – Bradley Roby – A+ definite hit in the end of the first round, key contributor in Super Bowl 50 and now starting in place of Talib.

2-56 – Cody Latimer – C- got great production in special teams, which was a plus, but you expect second round picks to start and produce for their offensive or defensive unit, that unfortunately never materialized.

3-95 – Michael Schofield – C+ he was the starting RT for our Super Bowl 50 winning broncos, that’s why this isn’t a D or F, but I’ll give a passing grade to any bronco who helps us win a super bowl; he was waived last year, but I see this pick with Super Bowl goggles.

5-156 – Lamin Barrow – F complete non-contributor

7-242 – Corey Nelson – A brought great depth and special teams production, that’s a definite hit for a 7th round pick; we tried to re-sign him, but he chose the Eagles for a better opportunity to start.

My Total Draft Grade: B+

2015

1-23 – Shane Ray – C we haven’t got the production we’d like to see from a first round pick we traded up to get, but he has provided great pass rushing depth when healthy; we declined his 5th year option, so the jury is still out on this pick’s draft grade, which could jump to an A or drop to a D depending how this year plays out.

2-59 – Ty Sambrailo – D- the only reason this isn’t an F is that we salvaged his value by receiving a 5th round pick; never lived up to second round expectations, despite showing some promise in some early starts at LT.

3-92 – Jeff Heurerman – D+ jury is still out on this pick and it is a total make or break year, could turn into a B grade with good production or an F grade w no to minimal production. He’s been either injured or underproducing in his 3 year career.

4-133 – Max Garcia – C- rotational guy on the OL his rookie year for the super bowl winning Broncos, then a 2 year starter the last two years, not bad for a 4th round pick; however, as a starter, Garcia has only disappointed and has failed to develop into the quality starting guard we had hoped for after his rookie campaign; it looks he is to be supplanted as a starting guard by either McGovern or Menelik.

5-164 – Lorenzo Doss – C- provided decent depth at CB for a couple years; we then moved on from Doss because of a lack of following team rules and/or some off field issues and/or some differences with the leadership, etc.

6-203 – Darius Kilgo – F cannot recall any contribution

7-250 – Trevor Siemian – A+ the 7th round QB continued to exceed all expectations and started for two seasons; we unfortunately had to move on, but at the very least, he proved he can be an average to above average backup QB; he had a decent year starting in ‘16 but then an atrocious year starting in ‘17, but, we were able to get a 5th round pick from Minn in return from having to be forced to move on; this is an A+ 7th round pick, even though it might not feel like it.

7-251 – Taureen Nixon – C a little bit of contribution for a couple years before we moved on.

7-252 – Josh Furman – F cannot recall any contribution
My Total Draft Grade: D+ but we won the super bowl that year, so all good, but I think we’ve been feeling the effects of this poor draft class the last couple of years.

2016

1-26 – Paxton Lynch – D- I don’t think I have to say much, this isn’t an F because he’s still on the broncos roster and another QB battle is coming this offseason with Mr. Irrelevant, but his time only for the backup role, his NFL career is hanging in the balance.

2-63 – Adam Gotsis – A- this is not including off field issues which could cause Gotsis to never play another snap in the NFL; but assuming all works out, Gotsis is trending to becoming a solid starter at DE.

3-98 – Justin Simmons – A+ already a solid starter and growing into one of the leaders on our defense; this pick was a knock out the park.

4-136 – Devontae Booker – B+ it feels like Booker has been underproducing, which he has, but he came into the NFL after a serious knee injury, and it does look like he has been trending in the right direction; this year will tell us the story in regards to the value of this pick; him and newcomer, Royce, should be carrying the rushing load this year, if they don’t, something went wrong…or incredibly right if D. Henderson or P. Lindsay explodes.

5-144 – Conor McGovern – A all signs point to McGovern starting at RG this year, or at the very least battling w Menelik during camp, this pick is looking like a slam dunk.

6-176 – Andy Janovich – B solid special teams contributor and talented FB; the only concern now is a FB’s role in the offense; will we transition back to an offense that resembles Kubiak’s? Or will we continue with the post-Kubiak style of offense? The answer to those questions hold Jano’s future with the Broncos in their hands.

6-219 – Will Parks – A solid depth and special teams contributor; Parks has had a few bumps in the road, but he has been solid; he will now have to fight for a spot on the roster with the addition of Sua and the developing Jamal Carter.

7-228 – Riley Dixon – A starting punter for two years before we signed King this offseason, we then were able to trade him for a conditional pick…I’ll take that.

My Draft Grade: B-

Since you guys seem to skip talking about the replies from the comment section, I want to make this a prime comment so that everyone gets to hear it! It is in reference from Gunners question yesterday about who would be better, Zac trying to block or Ryan trying to catch.

Your new nicknames are…..
Ryan: Doormat!
Zac: Pancake!

Go see the original comment in the May 10th podcast comment section for the whole story!

GO BRONCOS!!!

I want to start by welcoming all the new subscribers to the BSN Brotherhood…nice ring to it right. I wanted to year your thoughts on team competition who would win: Fastest player 40 time, Bench press, vertical, also best hands, best tackler, best tackle breaker and any other catagories you might think up.

Thanks
Aaron

Well I’m not gonna lie. There’s a part of me that is torn. I upped my subscription during the avs playoff run. I have been a fan of the avs since 1996. Last year was the first year I followed the broncos. So for this contest I gave it to the avs promo code, but I wanted to do the broncos code cause I support your broncos coverage so much. Maybe next time we can have a joint avs/broncos party. Or I should just convert all the way to the broncos side cause I think it will be hard to ever beat you guys… anyone actually born and raised in Colorado knows this place is bronco country. (Sorry this is long but it’s not as long as one of those previous comments so…) but to sum up as a Coloradan I remember driving around with my dad after we beat the packers and everyone was out cheering….on the streets…and after the avs won in 2001 we did the same and no one was out… that’s when I realized football will always dominate hockey in Colorado….. and I love hockey.

Champions!!! Congrats to the bsnbroncoscountry. I also have a question for Monday’s pod… I think it is save that the Broncos and Bears will hold joint practices together – I know it is still kinda far in the future – but how do you guys see this whole thing? Why do you think they won’t practice with the 49ers again? The only explanation I have, would be that after 3 years it is because they will meet in the regular season.
Thx and keep it up guys!

Good work to all broncos fans on upping their game and taking the W. Should always be noted that this is a 50/50 split though. Awesome fans and the awesome content you are producing on a daily basis.
Just wanted to know your thoughts on the naming rights to the stadium since it is apparently going to be figured out shortly according to Joe Ellis. Any names you are hearing? But to also make it more fun how about companies you would like to see have their name up in lights at Mile High? Feel free to make these are stupid as possible! I would like to see Virgin up there. the Virgin Stadium at Mile High……I am sure you guys can come up with something better.

This is the best podcast crew, BSN as a whole, I’ve listened to since I started my new job. Work in a shop and have headphones in all day and this is the first one I go to. Wish I had a question right now but all I can say is congrats champs and that was a hard choice for me because my 2 sports teams in Colorado are the Broncos and Avs. In the end I just went with team I grew up with and that is the Broncos.
