Last week, Woody Paige of the Denver Post reported that Peyton Manning would retire by the end of this week. As we sit here on Saturday afternoon, no decision out of Manning. In fact, signs are now pointing to Manning not making a decision before the March 9 deadline, when his massive contract becomes guaranteed.
On Friday, Manning’s agent was on with Dan Sileo of The Mighty 1090 in San Diego and he alluded to the future hall-of-famer not making a decision anytime soon.
“There’s a time when the contract becomes guaranteed, so [the Broncos will] just have to make a move before then,” he explained. “[Manning is] completely aware of the guarantee obligation from the club on a date certain, and he knows that there has to be some accommodation prior to that.”
If this is the case, the most likely scenario will be the Broncos releasing their quarterback, who certainly did not play up to the $19 million he will be due this season if they don’t. It’s not the fairytale ending the world so adamantly craves, but it’s a reminder that the fans nor the media have any control over the story of an athlete’s career. If Peyton want’s to play then he’s going to play but it sounds like he still hasn’t made that decision.
“I couldn’t answer that accurately,” said Condon of if he was aware of any decision. “I know better than to ask him. I understand that when he makes up his mind as to what he wants to do, he’s gonna let me know. But as of now, he wanted to take his time and be patient with the decision and make sure that he is sure.”
“Let’s face it, he loves it,” added the agent. “He loves being the locker room, he loves working out and, of course, the interaction with his teammates, and he loves the game.”
While all along it’s looked like Peyton Manning that was going to make a decision, as the days slowly tick away it looks like the Denver Broncos will be the only ones forced into a decision.

It might be cheaper to let Manning to play another year, offering Brock a large contract of 40 million over three years is just as ridiculous. We do not know enough about Brock to offer that kind of money everyone is panicking in Denver look around look at other veteran QB available. Like I said if you are going to pay Brock that kind of money just as well let PM play one more year. Brock has not impressed me we have not seen enough of him. Elway only drafted him because he wanted him. Just because he played behind Manning does not mean he is going to be good. He could not handle the San Diego game pressure got to him. He lucked out in that Patriots game, people make it sound like he won but just lucked out TB would of beat him but they fumbled. That is a lot of money to pay for Brock without knowing for sure. What is wrong with Elway he usually does not throw that kind of money around on a rookie and yes Brock is still a rookie limited games under his belt. If you pay him less then sure you can sign him but not for 40 million for three years. No way look for a veteran QB. Do not rush and over pay.
Christ, cut Peyton already. He had his chance to bow out gracefully, he didn’t take it, and now it’s time for reality to hit him. And sign Brock already. If Bradford can get $36M over two years, Brock is going to get something similar from Houston or Cleveland or LA. Sign Brock asap.
Boo, first you blasphem Jesus, then you interpret Manning’s decision process with all the compassion of a heartless self-absorbed dude!!! It would not be bowing out gracefully, IT WOULD BE SUBMITTING TO THE BULLYING BY ALL THOSE WHO WANT HIM GONE!!!
