John Elway doesn’t take his position lightly. As the Denver Broncos General Manager, Elway’s an exemplary leader and his competitive drive is as legendary as “The Drive.”

Last year around this time, Elway announced his team is “Chasing Lombardi,” meaning they’re doing everything in their power to compete for a third Vince Lombardi Trophy. It can be argued (and was in Chasing Lombardi: The Elway – Manning Era) that Elway’s been attempting to put his team back atop the NFL’s mountain since he took over in 2011.

Elway’s been extremely effective in landing huge-name free agents and his drafting – especially in 2011 – has created talented starters and backups as well.

Simply stated, John Elway has the Broncos in the position to seriously compete for a Super Bowl for the fourth straight season. And he’s apparently proud of what Denver’s front office has been able to do this season, declaring on Facebook Monday:

“Good to get the off-season program underway. The quest for Lombardi has begun.”

Emmanuel Sanders, who announced yesterday he’ll move to the slot in three-receiver sets, echoed Elway’s sentiment saying, “If it’s not a world championship, it’s a bust,” at his press conference.

It’s something Elway the executive should be commended for; from the top-down, everyone in the organization understands how serious a goal winning the Super Bowl is. Other teams talk about it, the Broncos are in the midst of truly competing for a championship.
