Really optimistic about what Woods is doing after seeing the third preseason game. Ever since Ray was able to pass on the surgery I’ve been thinking up potential blitzes, stunts, and formations. Woods has so many options at his disposal, and I was really hoping he would allow the creativity to flow, take some chances, and try to take this defense from a good unit to something really special. Between the formations we saw and the Dymonte Thomas trial at dime linebacker (whether that was out of necessity or choice), we saw some awesome innovation. A year after a lot of young coaches were able to excel with innovation, that was promising to see

Great comment, Preston. I was honestly surprised the Broncos revealed this much in a preseason game. Should just be the start of a much more diverse scheme. We’ve already seen a lot more four-man fronts, with Chubb lined up in all different spots from DE with a hand in the ground in 4-3 looks, to OLB in 3-4 and even as a SAM in 4-3 formations.
If Cravens can be healthy, the back seven will be even more creative as well, and we still haven’t seen the NASCAR look with all four edge rushers on the field at once. Should be a really fun year with creative schemes like this.
