Great work as always, Zac. Good to see the tone in Denver is becoming more upbeat. I’m hoping this will continue with the right personnel moves.

Very interesting story Zac, particularly the comment by Elway regarding one highly questionable, Mr. Paxton Lynch.

Elway: “…I still think Paxton’s got the ability to have a great career in this league…He’s going to come back, continue to get better and continue to fit in and see how he can continue to improve.”

I think I see what’s going on here. This is Elway morphing into to his auto dealer manger role at John Elway Chrysler,Jeep,Dodge, Ram having spent maybe a little too much time fraternizing with car sales people.

You can re-translate what he said about Lynch and equate it to a car…

Elway: “I’ve got this honey of a 1994 Geo Metro Convertible in the back lot, original paint and tires, only 189,000 miles, very few rust spots, starts right up on warm days, only been in 1 wreck with a dent you could probably kick back into place…”

You get the idea.

To me, when he delivered that tribute, he wasn’t talking to the media. He was talking beyond them to other NFL owners, managers and coaches who may be listening and trying to dispense lemonade instead of lemons and sell them on Lynch.

And oh by-the-way, the same can be said for his comments on Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas…

“I think they are still elite wide receivers…I think they still have a lot of football and are a top receiving pair in the league.”

He’s talking them up in case he can get a potential deal from another team who may be kicking the tires on wide receivers.

And lastly when Elway said, ““We are still going to want to run the ball…”

To me this translates into, “Getting a tier-1 Running Back is a top priority for us in 2018.”

What do you think???

Great story Zac.

Hahah great comment as always, Paul! I totally agree that Elway wants a top-tier RB and I think that could even come in teh form of Saquon in the first round. Wouldn’t be surprised if one of the Broncos’ two first picks is a RB.

Thanks for the awesome feedback and support as always!

Hey Zac,
Let’s say for a minute that Elway’s praise and comments about keeping Lynch is real, it’s not smoke screen, or he isn’t just talking him up for a perspective buyer. Let’s also say that Kubiak, who knows Case Keenum better than anyone, convinces Elway that Keenum is the guy they want as their starter.

My question is, since both Keenum and Lynch are both mobile, gun slingers, who prefer to work out of shotgun… A) do you see this tandem as a good fit for what the Broncos want to do? B) would their similar games allow Musgrave to build an offense that both QBs could easily run as interchangeable parts?

It’s a great point, Mark. I think that’s an interesting scenario and probably a likely one if the Broncos get Keenum. Spending big money on Keenum won’t allow them to get a backup QB, so they’ll have to go with one they have and I don’t think they are fully ready to move on from Lynch just to do it. I also don’t think they’ll draft a QB high if they get Keenum, making Paxton the talented developmental QB in the room.

As you know, I don’t think Paxton is an ideal backup, but I can definitely see a situation in which he is the backup.
