ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos have made their first trade of the draft, sending running back Kapri Bibbs and a 2017 fifth-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for their 2018 fourth-round pick.

The move comes at the beginning of the third day of the draft in an effort to free themselves of draft picks.

Denver entered the third day of the draft with six picks, totaling 10 in the draft. It was expected that the Broncos would potentially make a move to package a few draft picks to move up in the draft. Instead, they packaged Bibbs and a fifth-round pick to gain a pick, and a round, in next year’s draft.

Bibbs, a 2014 undrafted player from Colorado State, was a member of the Broncos’ organization the past three seasons, spending the last two on the active roster. He saw the only productivity in his career in 2016 as he rushed for 129 yards on 29 carries in 12 games. His season was ended Week 13 when he suffered a high ankle sprain against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The four-year pro also had a strong presence on special teams. With the loss of Kayvon Webster earlier this offseason, Denver now has a void on special teams.

Denver now has four running back on their active roster: C.J. Anderson, Devontae Booker, Juwan Thompson and Bernard Pierce.

The compensatory fifth-round pick that Denver sent to San Francisco is the 34th pick in the round, 177 overall. Before this season compensatory picks were not allowed to be traded, however, the rule changed this season allowing this trade.

The Broncos now have five picks on the third day of the draft: a fourth rounder (126 overall), a sixth rounder (203), and three seventh round picks (238, 252 and 253).
