DENVER — The Denver Broncos acquired cornerback Duke Dawson from the New England Patriots on Friday, BSN Denver has confirmed.
In exchange for Dawson, the Broncos gave the Patriots a 2020 6th-round pick and also acquired New England’s 2020 7th-round pick along with the cornerback. It’s a high upside, low-cost move by John Elway.
Dawson, 5-foot-10, 198 pounds, was a second-round pick by New England in 2018 out of Florida. He did not appear in a single game for the Patriots as he spent part of the season on the injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
Coming out of Florida, Dawson profiled as a physical cornerback who excelled in press coverage and in the run game.
According to a source, the Broncos and Patriots had been in communication for days about this trade.
Dawson provides even more depth for Denver’s cornerback room. The 23-year old joins Chris Harris Jr., Bryce Callahan, Isaac Yiadom and De’Vante Bausby, as well as Kareem Jackson.
