Throughout the offseason, we’ll be profiling players who may end up in Denver when all is said and done with the 2017 NFL Draft. The Broncos clearly have plenty of holes to fill before they get back to Super-Bowl form and we’ll be examining a long list of players they may choose to help the franchise do just that.

The first player we’ll be examining is Wisconsin left tackle Ryan Ramczyk. Ramczyk only started one season for the Badgers at left tackle but was impressive enough in his lone season to merit a first-round grade. He arrived in Wisconsin through an unusual path from Division III after taking a break from football after high school.

Here’s a look at what Ramczyk brings to the table.

Strengths

Ramczyk is lauded for his mechanics and sound footwork, the All-American tackle is very strong in pass protection, something he showed when playing against top competition; holding LSU, Ohio State, and Michigan’s pass rushers at bay. He’s also strong at the point of attack and given his limited experience promises to have a decent amount of upside as well.

Weaknesses

Ramczyk’s inexperience can also be seen as a weakness in addition to him recovering from a hip surgery that he required after the season was finished. His ability to contribute immediately isn’t a guarantee.

On the field, the Wisconsin product does need to improve in blocking on the second level and do a better job angle blocking against the run.

How he fits in Denver

Considered by many as the top tackle in the 2017 draft class, and maybe the only prospect with the skill to start immediately on the blind side, Ramczyk would be a much-needed addition to the Broncos offensive line.

The former Badger also has some good system versatility and can fit in a power blocking scheme—likely what Denver will be running with new offensive line coach Jeff Davidson—but also has the requisite athleticism to play in a more zone oriented scheme. Above all, Ramczyk’s ability in pass protection will be crucial for the Broncos offense to improve in 2017.
