If there was ever a better highlight for a first career touchdown grab, A.J. Derby hasn’t seen it.
Midway through the first quarter, Broncos’ quarterback Trevor Siemian found a streaking Derby all-alone for Denver’s only trip to the end zone on the afternoon. No. 83 not only scored on the play while lining up as a fullback, he did it with only his fingertips on the 22-yard score and never stepped out of bounds.
“We were just saying how that drive was kind of the ‘A.J. Derby Show.’ He had a similar route the play before and he did a good job getting open,” Siemian told Denver media after the win. “That was a pretty good catch, too. He had a good day, so I’m happy for him.”
Derby ended the day with four receptions for 75 yards—by far his most productive game as a pro.
