Denver had seen one crucial player after another this offseason leave to peruse money and notoriety, but on Tuesday, one decided to stay in the fold. Broncos’ kicker Brandon McManus has decided to sign his exclusive rights tender and remain with the team who has put so much faith in him.
Now, an exclusive rights tender can be confusing, but just remember that is just a fancy way of saying he was never really a free agent at all. The young temple standout had three choices this offseason: wait for a long-term contract, sign this tender, or not play; he chose the former and is able to now start off-season workouts. With his signing, McManus will be a restricted free agent after this season.
This is paramount for the Orange & Blue, who were struggling to find replacement players for ones who had already shipped out. McManus had an 85.7 percent success rate in 2015, making 30-of-35 attempts and most importantly, going 10-for-10 in the postseason.
