Say goodbye to Peyton Manning, Broncos fans. Brock Osweiler completed 20 of 27 passes for 250 yards, 2 touchdowns, and did not turn the ball over once.
The only major mistake the young signal caller made on Sunday was when he accidentally tripped Broncos running back Ronnie Hillman during a 4th-down hand-off attempt inside the 5-yard line. But even that turned into a positive as many fans and pundits now claim that the Broncos “really put up” 24 points against the Bears, in Chicago.
Osweiler finished with a 127.1 QB Rating. Slightly higher than the 0.0 rating that Peyton Manning had registered the week before.
Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak seemed very happy with Osweiler after the game saying, “He did a really good job. We didn’t protect him very good in the first half. He had to take his lumps in a couple situations but he kept his composure and would come back and make the next play.” The coach went on to say, “He did a heck of a job and his team played well around him and that’s the most important thing. Very proud of him, he was ready to go.”
Kubiak was right, the 25-year old quarterback was ready to go. He completed his first five passes and led his offense down the field all game, putting them into the red zone early and often.
According to Osweiler, his time against Kansas City last week helped tremendously. He said, ”Last week did help a lot. Getting to go out there and play against a great Kansas City defense and build some relationships with some of our offensive starters. I think last week was huge.”
Coach Kubiak would not talk about who will be starting at quarterback next week against the Patriots, but he did extend his praise for Osweiler, saying, “He can do everything. He’s a very composed young man and the more he plays, I think, the better he’s going to get. We booted a little bit, not a lot. They were up the field quite a bit but the threat of us doing that, I think, helped us run the ball a little bit.” The Osweiler compliments would end by Kubiak saying, ”He’s a sharp young man. He has a lot of confidence in himself and he should obviously gain some more through this experience.”
