In Broncos Country, one team reigns supreme.
Denver Broncos fans – one of the biggest and widest spread, calling all of the Rocky Mountain region home – have even bested themselves this year. Broncos fans have set a new record for attendance at the team’s training camp, with 44,945. And that’s only 10 practices in! Broncomaniacs also set a single-practice attendance record with 5,507 last Friday.
The previous record was for a total training camp was 43,076 in attendance, set in 2012.
Call it a perfect storm of circumstances.
Dove Valley was closed to the public last year due to massive improvements to the entire grounds, so fans were hungry to see the team practice and excited to see those changes to Broncos headquarters. The indoor facility, the newly designed fields and parking lots at UCHealth Training Center; it has to be the best in the NFL.
Fans want to be at training camp because Denver’s in position to legitimately compete for a Super Bowl for the fourth straight year; watching some of the most gifted athletes in the game prepare is blissful to football purists. Plus, celebrated son Gary Kubiak is back to coach the team, brining new intensity as well as schemes. Also, this may be Peyton Manning‘s last year in the NFL, and the fans’ last chance at seeing him run the offense from incredibly close up.
Wednesday’s practice – which included 50-plus Broncos alumni in attendance – was the last until Aug. 17. The Broncos face the Seattle Seahawks this Friday at 8 p.m. MT.
