Brock Osweiler "It's a little different seeing Peyton run the scout team"

The Denver Broncos send out a media schedule every week and typically define what coaches and players will be available on certain days. Wednesday, Gary Kubiak addresses the media as he does every day and then it is the team’s starting quarterback shortly thereafter. This week the Broncos didn’t specify who or if a quarterback would be speaking at all and with Wednesday marking Peyton Manning‘s return to the practice field there was almost a mass confustion for those in the media room as to who they would be talking to.

After much debating it ended up being Brock Osweiler‘s day to address the as it has been for the last four weeks, but Osweiler knew this was not a typical day at the UC Health training center.

“It was a little strange to watch Peyton take those scout team reps today, but, once again, that’s just something out of my control,” Osweiler said. “I was told to go to the first-team huddle and you’re the starter this week, and that’s what I did. If you look back on the past almost four years now, every single day I’ve just come to work and I’ve done my job. I do what I’m told to do and I do it to the best of my ability. That’s simply what I did today, but to answer your question, yes. It’s a little different seeing Peyton run the scout team.”

Gary Kubiak named Osweiler the starter for the fifth straight game this week as the Broncos travel to Pittsburgh, but the head coach wouldn’t comment further with his future Hall of Fame quarterback returning to practice in a limited capacity Wednesday.

“I’m expecting Brock to continue to play well, but I’m going to stay focused a week at a time,” Kubiak said.  “I’m not going to talk about what’s going on three weeks from now or two weeks from now. We’re committed to playing Pittsburgh. We’re going to have to be really good this weekend. We know who our quarterback is this weekend. We know the other one is out, so we’re going to stay committed week-to-week. That’s not going to change.”

As for Manning, Kubiak said he will likely add more and more to his workload each practice and see how Manning responds. Manning will not dress at Pittsburgh on Sunday and Trevor Siemian will remain as Osweiler’s backup.
