Braves Wreak Havoc: Return favor on Rox in blowout

The Colorado Rockies had to settle for a frustrating series split against the Atlanta Braves after taking a brutal 10-4 loss on Thursday afternoon.

The game turned into a laugher in the seventh. Rockies relievers Mike Dunn and Adam Ottavino gave up hard line drive after hard line drive to Atlanta. It began with a walk to Ender Inciarte and a single from Brandon Phillips but the big blows were a two-run double from Matt Adams and a two-run triple from Dansby Swanson. By the time the dust had settled, a game that was close at the start of the inning was suddenly a 10-2, contest.

Starter Jeff Hoffman was laboring from the very start. His fastball sank down to 91 mph at times and he issued multiple four-pitch walks in the contest. The velocity was about 2.5 mph slower than his typical fastball. He appeared fatigued out of the gate and was getting hit hard even when he didn’t give up runs. He managed only 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on six hits, recording just one strike out. All four runs came on solo homers.

The Braves went ahead 3-2 on Inciarte’s second straight home run to lead off the fifth inning and extended their lead to 4-2 on a first-pitch home run from Freddie Freeman.

Atlanta tied it in the third on a screaming line drive home run off the bat of Ender Inciarte, his ninth of the season.

Colorado immediately took the lead in the bottom of the second getting a lead-off walk from Story and the first career RBI and extra base hit for Ryan McMahon who smashed a double into the opposite field gap.

McMahon moved up on a swinging bunt, broken bat single from Alexi Amarista who moved to second on a sac fly from Hoffman. Charlie Blackmon put the Rockies ahead with a productive groundout to first base.

The Braves got the first run of the game in the second inning on a solo home run from catcher Tyler Flowers, his 10th of the season.
