Brandon McManus has had a rocky path through the Rocky Mountains, but this year, the path seems to be smoothing out.
The second year Kicker out of Temple University is a perfect 9-9 this season, including 3-3 from 54-yards or more. This was certainly not the case in 2014. With the tandem of McManus and Connor Barth sharing the kicking duty for the Denver Broncos last season, it was clear one of them was not the right fit for the orange and blue. Last season after missing three field goals in the span of five games, McManus was released on Nov. 23rd. His unemployment did not last long as John Elway wanted to keep McManus on the roster and he was quickly resigned.
“For me it’s just about repeating my technique and staying consistent,” McManus said. “Just keeping myself in that zone where I repeat the good technique, keep making kicks.”
The thin Mile High air has helped the young Kicker and he seems to know exactly how to use it. “The wind doesn’t look like it’s blowing, but the wind is always blowing,” McManus said. It is the same thin air that helped former Bronco, Matt Prater, kick an NFL record 64-yard field goal in 2013.
McManus is also 10-10 on extra points this season, which has been moved back to the 33-yard line, he stated it’s all about kept loose and that it is still a “makeable” kick. McManus also removed a small step in his stride, which he credits to his success.
No matter the case, McManus is perfect in 2015. The second year Temple prodigy will keep kicking for the orange and blue this season and being an important part of the scheme that ranks 27th in total yards this season. McManus will continue to be vital here in Denver.
