Colorado men’s basketball head coach Tad Boyle made no secrets about wanting to use his final open scholarship on a transfer, one that would have to sit out this coming season before continuing his career in Boulder.

On Sunday afternoon, he landed Missouri transfer Namon Wright, who the Buffs had been targeting ever since he announced his intentions to leave the Show Me State. Wright is originally from the Los Angeles area and was rated as a four-star prospect by Scout.com as a high school player.

Colorado had recruited Wright out of high school, but ultimately, he chose to leave his home territory in favor of the SEC. Once his transfer was public, three programs were reported to be in contention for his services.

The Buffs beat out Oregon and UNLV for Wright’s services. This marks the fifth transfer into the program since Boyle took over.

First, there was Carlon Brown, who helped Colorado win a Pac-12 Tournament championship and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player in the process. Sabatino Chen also enjoyed plenty of success with the program, while Josh Fortune averaged 10.3 points per game last season after coming in from Providence. Derrick White, a transfer from UCCS, becomes eligible next season.
