Rockies relief pitcher John Axford hasn’t pitched since last Wednesday.

After Axford earned a save in a spring game vs the Giants, he received a message that his 2 year old son Jameson, had been bitten by a rattlesnake.

Jameson was bitten twice on his foot and has since been in an Arizona area hospital in stable condition. Doctors are concerned that they may need to amputate one of the child’s toes.

Axford returned to the Rockies clubhouse Tuesday to pitch a bullpen session, but isn’t sure when he will return to the club in a full capacity. As bad as it looks, it’s looking better,” Axford told the media. “We’re trying to take things step by step. Any positive thoughts people have for him would be well-received.”
