Count me in as one of the fans with short term concern about the weight. Although, I also think he absolutely did the right thing for his career in the long term by putting the muscle on. It did affect Mackinnion’s first two steps when he did that a couple years ago but we also see how that worked out. To me, Sam’s first steps looked heavy at camp. His skating overall is amongst the most beautiful on the team and that spinorama is still there but we’ll see if he sticks on that top pair. Great coverage as usual – thanks for that.

Totally agree. MacK put on 10 lbs two times each summer after his rookie year and definitely lost a little bit of that speed. These things scare me. Saku Koivu for example would have had an entirely different kind of a career if he never went down that path.

Love this kid. Hopefully his game progresses into more scoring,but his ability to get out of the zone is radical.
