Great article, AJ! Agreed regarding your Broncos comment… don’t forget that they pretty much bought their championship in free agency with the Aqib Talib, TJ Ward, and Peyton Manning acquisition. Avalanche haven’t bought much — it has been a patient process that is grounded on drafting well and managing the cap. Sakic deserves soo much credit.

This is the summer where I think you’ll see Colorado go ham in UFA and add the big pieces.

You think they can convince Panarin to come here? that would be a helluva top two lines if they win the lottery. Mack, Landy, Mikko, Panarin, Kaut, and Hughes.

Kaut? You mean that 19 yo kid that has like 7 goals in the AHL this season?

AJ–I just don’t see that much in the FA market that excites me this year. Maybe a piece that talks about some of the players out there would help the uninformed such as me.
As for the playoffs I am just going to sit back and enjoy what happens.
Tuesday, however, will offer a few pins and needles.

Skinner? Panarin? Either one of those guys would excite me

Good story. Now we get to see if they’ll become a team like minny, who had a great team but ran into a juggernaut, Anaheim, a great team who just didn’t quite have enough, or a Cup Champion. Regardless, the past ten years will hopefully have taught me to enjoy the good times, regardless.

I get extra commenting points for beginning and ending a sentence with the word regardless.

I would never call Minny a great team. They had some good teams and overall were a good team. They had some good seasons, but never have had a bonafide superstar on their team, ever. Even the all star teams the Avs had in the past still didn’t just walk through the playoffs. I would say Colorado is more on the track like Chicago was when they added Kane and Toews. If the Avs are lucky, they will have Mack and Hughues down the middle 1/2, a lot like the Sakic/Forsberg days.

This was a really cool piece, AJ. I was reading and wondering when the last time was that a playoff team had a top 4 pick – am I right in thinking Boston? After the Kessel thing? That seemed to work out well for them… My other questions is: if the Avs land at 3 or 4 and you’ve got Podkolzin sitting there, does the window they are trying to hit affect whether or not they think about taking him? Thanks again!!

AJ – thanks for the many hours of work posting on the site and on the air. You guys are my go to’s for commentary and insight. I’d also like to add my name to the request for your take should the Avs get screwed and wind up with the 3rd or 4th pick.

AJ – I’m a pessimist by nature and can see that the odds of us getting picks 1 or 2 are against us. Give me some reasons to be excited about picks 3 or 4.

Not AJ, but Ive known him for years. Depending on who put in the 3/4 slot, we could potentially end up with one of a few very good power forwards (podkolzin), or dach whi could slot in as a nice 2c for us imo.

It’s refreshing to be reminded to enjoy this. It’s so easy to get caught up in expectations. Thanks for that reminder.

O.k. time to go new age and get the powers of positive attraction going. you get what you think you will get. conceive, believe and you can achieve! Let’s Put it out there that we will get the #1 pick and we will. The Avs certainly deserve it after last time. Looking forward to choosing #1! I hope avs nation gets on the positive wave…….
