who centered the top line if it wasn’t Jost?

I’m unsure about Girard playing top pair minutes. I almost see Z and Barrie taking the top pair later in the season if it doesn’t work out.

That’s insane. If Sam isn’t cutting it, they find a different partner for EJ, not demote the best defender (Johnson) on the team to shelter Girard.

Any reason for concern with Mackinnon?

Had the players that played on the 4th line ever played together? Who do you see playing with Soderberg? What’s going on with Varly? He hasn’t looked good at all.

This is just me speculating, but I wonder if they’re going to try and showcase Colin Wilson on the second line as trade bait. Probably not, because Sakic doesn’t do trade deadline deals, but that won’t stop me from wondering. 🙂

I don’t think the Avs have the luxury of getting that cute…but you never know.

Avs Injury Conversion Chart

“Maintenance Day” = The player has a an injury and is day to day.

“Injured – Day to Day” = The player has more than a minor injury. He’ll miss some number of practices, then will attend a practice or two in a non-contact jersey, then will have to attend at least one practice without the non-contact jersey before being cleared to play. This player is actually “week to week ”

“Injured – Week to Week” = This player will be out at least a month and is actually “month to month.” I believe both Andrighetto and Barberio were originally listed as week to week before their long injury outages last year.

In summary, bump every reported injury up one level from where it’s originally reported. MacK will very likely play on Thursday, but when he was reported as taking a maintenance day yesterday, he was actually day to day.

He did take a maintenance day. He’s fine but what was the upside of him playing today? It was a game that didn’t count. Why rush it? He’s ready for the season.

But otherwise I agree. Last year’s silliness about “day to day” when we knew that wasn’t true was just obnoxious more than anything else.

AJ do you think Z and Compher are slightly injured or were they just sitting guys out with the game not mattering?

It made perfect sense leaving him out if he had a minor nagging injury and I didn’t say otherwise. But that’s my point – he had (and likely still has) a day to day injury on Saturday. Not every time, but seemingly more often than not, when we’re told a player is taking a maintenance day, it turns into something longer. It’s not a government plot and I mostly understand why they hold a lot of this information close to the vest but I’m simply suggesting that when they report one status we should usually in our minds replace it with another.

With the seemingly tougher skating camp, are there more injuries this preseason to the Avs…seems like more?

Anyone else not like the whole…”it’s ok to lose because it’s just preseason mindset?” I understand not going all out and don’t want that but…at some point the culture needs to become a winning one.

Please claim Pontus Aberg off waivers!! I would prefer Aberg by far to Colin Wilson in the top 9. It would be a nice claim, it’s free!! Aberg had a nice chemistry with Kamenev during their years in Milwaukee. I would like to see Aberg-Kamenev-Compher on a line. Put Wilson on waivers and if he’s not claimed just to burn his contract in AHL.

Good write up AJ.

In an unrelated note- how is anyone watching Avs games on internet streaming tv? Nhl.tv blackouts local IP addresses. I can watch every nhl game…except the Avs.

I may get in trouble with BSN for this but…

I’ll pay for NHL’s crappy streaming service the day they stop blacking out local games. Until then it’s a gigantic ripoff.

Get a VPN and you will be able to watch it because it masks your location.

I do like the conversion chart. It needs some colors and then it’ll be saucy
