I was sure the Avs would start this game flat but was very happy they came out smokin instead.

And I rarely comment on officiating because lots of fans get all worked up over calls for and missed when the feel their team is getting jobbed by the zebras. And I just think it’s wasted energy to get twisted up over it. But the inconsistent officiating across the board gets pretty frustrating.

Really nice win for the Avs.

Didn’t love the useage of Calvert especially him getting so much more time than Kerfoot, but I do think Nieto has found a nice groove and played well. Wilson and Andrighetto struggles to me and their TOI reflects that as well.

Avs seem to be on the wrong side of the refs all the time now. It’s probably just coincidence but one can’t help but think of all those years NBA refs were tilting games. Hopefully it balances out but the ledger currently seems to be well in favour of the opponent.

They definitely could have called Landeskog for a trip behind the net right before the ENG but let it slide.
Them’s the breaks.

You guys should do a pod sometime on how Joe Sakic’s long term strategy has worked out. Along with the current NHL talent, the value he has amassed in future draft capital and current prospects is almost miraculous. The value across the board is astonishing considering where we were before he took the helm. His fingerprints are all over this team now.

Where are those haters now? Just over a year ago he was the worst GM ever, right?

You’re right — that would be a good pod topic. I’d love to hear it.
And I also agree that the Avs future looks great because of the work Sakic has done.
Along with Sakic maturing into the job, I’d be interested in hearing thoughts on how much the hiring of MacFarland in ’15 has
impacted the improvement.

It is interesting to see how one broken stick can change the entire tenor of a game. Until the Zadorov broken stick incident and breakaway by Crosby the Avs were just cruising. Then it all changed. Definitely a fun game to watch.
