Thanks AD – I have enjoyed your writing for years. Hopefully Varly survives the game. Fatigued athletes are seemingly more likely to get injured and so if we lose Semyon then the season is over. Saving him for the Detroit game makes more sense.

I’m not on board with Bednar here. Look, everyone wants to win every game. But I think the coach should have had the big picture in mind and made the better call to rest Varly for the stretch ahead.
Making the playoffs with an exhausted goalie does no one any good.
I hope Bernie & EJ are really close to being ready.

I second this – to me it indicates that the Avs are going to be that “just glad to be here” team. They are burning out their only healthy NHL level goalie.

I disagree. No way would I have played a rusty rookie goalie in a game of this importance. Varly has all summer to rest if they don’t keep winning games.
