2 hours and you didn’t answer the most important question?? C’mon guys, 4 or 9?!
Seriously, ‘epic’ is not strong enough to describe this effort.

Great pod guys. Entertaining for sure. Very interesting to hear all the complexities of a potential trade like this. After the pod, I am not opposed to a trade for Hall ( I was before the pod )as he could be the piece that helps the Avs win a cup in the MacKinnon cup window. That being said, I am just concerned it could cause the Avs to fall into salary cap hell in a few years and not be able to win multiple cups in Mack’s cup window. It seems like it can happen quickly. Glad I am not Sakic rolling those dice.

Wow! Where do I begin? First off, I love listening to you guys discussing things like this from both sides so that we keep in mind what NJ is potentially looking for in return. My big hold up with the Avs making this trade is and remains the idea that the Avs are legit Cup contenders now and for at least the next four years or maybe the next 10 years depending on how they play things with the assets they have right now. Personally, I’m not keen on the idea of trading either Timmins or Byram for anything right now. The main reason is that defencemen are so incredibly valuable in the NHL esp when a top two potential player is “buried” on the second pair and not getting PP time. If we can hold on to Byram and Timmins for another year or two along with Makar and Girard the value of each of them will rise exponentially. Sure, trading Timmins and a conditional first for Hall might make sense right now. What about a year from now when we have those guys as our top four and EJ and whoever as our third pair? I would prefer the idea of trading Zadorov, Kaut, and a conditional first (maybe even add in a thrid or fourth round pick or one of the older college prospects to sweeten the deal) to get Hall and we would be good. If we can sign Hall to a 3-5 year deal that doesn’t break the cap then it would be icing on the cake. I like the idea of holding on to Cole for at least this year even as a 7/8 defenceman as he’s the only one with a Cup ring on the team and can lend some valuable leadership and depth for what is still a really young team during a playoff run. I guess my bottom line here is that we can just try for a Cup or two while MacK is still on this contract or we can try to set this team up for a decade of contention given that MacK has said he’ll take less on his next deal to win with this group. We have one of those rare superstars on our hands that cares more about winning than money, and even though he’s going to get paid big time he’s more concerned about winning than money. With Mikko locked in long term at a reasonable price, MacK willing to take a discount, and Girard already locked in on a nice long deal they have a ton of flexibility now. We already know we’re going to have to pay Makar big time, giving Timmins and Byram some time to see where they shake out we can actually trade one of them down the road from a position of strength and actually gain current and future assets for them instead of going after a rental with them.

Well said, I like your approach. There is a longer term picture – time frame here than just this season. I Still would hate to lose Z and Kaut for Hall if he is only a rental and we can’t resign him to a reasonable contract.

Absolutely incredible work from all involved. Thank you!

if you give up Z, he has to be replaced immediately. I’m not ready for Timmins this year, so I’d ask to rent Vatanen for a pick/prospect also. So it sould be: Z + 1st + Kaut + 2nd for Hall + Vatanen
