The more I think about it, the more I am in favor of filling out the 30 man roster with Byram, Timmins, Kaut, and Bowers. First reason is that your NHL roster is fully healthy going in so they’ll probably have to be two to four injuries deep at either forward or defense before they would get in and they need to develop. Second reason (related to the first) is that these are all guys that you fully expect to at least get NHL games next season if not be regulars, so the practice and exposure to the environment will be beneficial by itself even if they don’t play any games (not like they can play anywhere else right now anyway). Third reason, who knows? I have no doubt that all the guys have been staying in shape as best they can, but what if one of those rookies comes into this camp and just blows the doors off everyone else? As an addendum on this one, none of these guys has much if any NHL film, so they could possibly be that playoff dark-horse that comes out of nowhere and puts up a once in a lifetime performance. The more bottles you have available the better your chance of catching lightning in one of em.
