The problem with Altitude is that it really isn’t a viable cable channel. Kroenke could have leased the rights to televise Avs game to an RSN like just about everyone else does. But it an effort to squeeze every last dime out of his sports holdings he set up a pseudo cable channel. But he can no longer get someone to pay him the money he needs to run it because the content it provides just isn’t valuable enough in comparison to what he’s asking for those broadcast rights. If they were this would have been settled a long time ago because the carriers would have felt the pain from people pining for that content. Absent legal intercession the rules of the marketplace are irrevocable. Altitude as an entity simply isn’t sustainable because it obviously can’t generate the revenue needed to do so. No amount of badgering the cable/sat companies is going to change that.

And the argument about him not being able to sustain losses at Altitude is pretty fatuous. He has a reported net worth of 9.7 Billion (with a ‘B’) dollars and that ignores the fact that his wife is a billionaire in her own right. He reportedly considered paying the $600 million relocation fee for the Rams in a lump sum rather than over 10 years as the NFL allows because it would have been cheaper to do so. I’m no class warrior but he could run Altitude at a loss for decades and not even notice it. In the words of Charles Foster Kane:

I think streaming could be viable. I would also like to see the numbers. All you have to do is buy a server and then figure out how many subs you have to sell to break even. Unfortunately, the Avs locking themselves out like the NHL did in 04′. It doesnt affect people in Denver, Fort Collins, Colo Springs, Boulder as much who can go to the games but ive talked to people who live in the mountains who are true hockey fans who will now not be following the team
