Personally, I don’t think they should go blowing things up at this point. The top four future is in place with Makar, Girard, Timmins, and Byram all in the fold now and likely less than a year from being given that chance. The reason I think they went after guys like Connauton and Rosen was to give them some flexibility to get through this season and next as those future top four guys find their game at the NHL level and provide a bit of a safety net for when they inevitably struggle from time to time. For the time being, I think you just start playing the match game and looking for workable pairs with what you have on hand. I don’t see a need to blow everything up in search of a short time fix when it seems the next 4-5 years are pretty well planned out for the first time in franchise history. I think you give this until the all star break before you start worrying about what you can do and what’s available for a deadline pickup that might help out, but I wouldn’t go paying anything much higher than a 3rd round pick for a rental this year unless there’s an extension already worked out with someone like Zucker or whoever it might be.
