I like your thoughts on the tricky d-men situation. I guess I’m most concerned about Zadorov in that mix (and I gather you are too). Just love his upside, and I hope Bednar is handling him in the best way. One of the things I’ve seen him (Z) do that makes me shake my head is to lazily pursue a puck in the corner when it is very get-able and important that we take possession. What gives, Z? I suspect Coach Bednar hates this, justifiably. Other times he’s the best Avs enforcer since Adam Foote! Anyway, I agree with your philosophy of now investing the necessary ice time in Zadorov to try and develop his play and his confidence.

I’m with ya Avadabbadoo. I guess everyone’s on twitter or something. I don’t know what to say about the D situation though. Other than that it’s a great problem to have, having too many guys. Bodes well for the Avs future, esp. with Timmons, Meloche, etc. on the way.
It’s an odd spot to be in for the team right now. The coaches and players are prioritizing winning but development is also such a crucial element of this season. They need to continue playing the young kids and putting them in as many valuable situations as they can find to stretch them out and see which kids respond. They have to find out what they have in some of these guys now because they have the Makar/Meloche/Timmins trio on the way and they could all realistically compete for NHL ice as early as 2018. It’s a fascinating year for the Avalanche for that reason alone.

Good points AJ. I for one, would greatly appreciate it if you guys gave us updates on our prospects in the podcasts during the season once in a while. For instance, I’m curious about Makar/Umass, as from what I’ve seen of their stats so far it doesn’t seem like he’s anywhere close to as dominant as he was in the Q, but I haven’t watched them at all or looked into it. You were at their first game in Phoenix right? Hit us up with a Makar update one of these days brother. Nice to hear you in good health again, and thanks for all the great Avs coverage.
I had to come back to Denver because I was super sick so I missed Makar live but I’ve watched all of his games so far. Makar has been awesome so far at UMass. He’s looking very likely to be a one and done.
I’m probably going to start doing a weekly prospect update either article or podcast now that everyone has started and is rolling so everyone can stay updated with what the kids are up to.
