Hey guys, first time commenting on here and not really sure if you still read these much but I had an interesting idea that I wanted to run by you all. With the new expansion draft, and Vegas not being eligible for having players taken from them, I was wondering if teams could use them as a “player depository”. My thought is that a team could trade a player and a pick to Vegas for the short term with the agreement that the player would come back to them after the expansion draft. Vegas would essentially be getting a free pick for nothing so I could see them doing it and the other team would be saving a valuable player from the expansion draft, so kind of a win/win. I realize this is highly unlikely but I was wondering if there are any rules that would stop teams from doing this. It would also be amusing if Vegas took advantage of teams for a second time in an expansion draft. Curious to hear a response and keep doing you!

Interesting in theory but it could get complicated quickly. I don’t believe there is a rule that prohibits teams from trading a player and then trade back for them right away however, you have to consider the salary cap and roster limits. Vegas may be able to accommodate a trade or two but any trade where salary retention is part of the trade, Vegas would not be allowed to trade that player back to the original team (Cap circumvention). Also you have to take into account waivers, Vegas would likely have to place their players on waivers to accommodate the trade (roster limit) which might not make enough sense for them in the long run. I think teams would just cut out the middle man (Vegas) and just deal with Seattle (trade picks to not pick certain players).

There is also a limit of contracts that a team can have regardless of whether the players under contract are on the NHL team or in the minors. I believe the max number is 50. There was some discusion on a couple of the podcasts earlier this season as the Avs approched that number.

Hey Guys, I see that Francouz is tearing up in the AHL with the Eagles. Is there any scenario with the current goaltending situation where he comes up and plays a couple of games. If someone gets hurt then he comes up, but if nobody does is their a way for him to come up?
