Good solo cast AJ. Much needed goalies discussion, thank you. I still think you are giving Hammond less credit than due, however. You failed to mention his playoff save % .933 on almost 100 shots and 138 minutes of play. That is NOT insubstantial. Esp. when considering that was backstopping the 17th seed against the #1. Also he didn’t play any worse in game 6 than the rest of the team did. Considering the Avs cap situation and lack of depth in goal, including Varly’s expiring contract, I think they are nuts to not be willing to over pay and over commit to Hammond and Bernie just a bit. Nothing crazy, but they have the money. Don’t they actually need to find something to do with MILLIONS just to reach the FLOOR? Both of them were crucial to Avs success this season. That seems like it’s worth something to me. When you look at some of the miserable, terrible contract decisions they’ve made in the past to bring in absolutely NOTHING useful, why is it such a stretch to think that an extra $500k and a couple years worth of contract would be so bad for these guys that have already shown great value in the prime of their career (for goalies)?
