Just a little observation:
In Pittsburgh I liked the way Barbs just shot the puck without hesitating.
I see too many of our rookies (like Girard) hesitate, and think about their options, which gives the opponents time to adjust.

On the other hand I often see Compher just shoot when he happens to be wide open and could maneuver better… so I realize I am contradicting myself.

In any case, Avs… fix it… now!!! 😉

Written over several days of listening:
– average save% is 9.14 or so. Varly is wellllll below that
– The response after the 3rd goal was great, but I’d gladly exchange those two shifts for every shift being 75% of that amount of effort.
– The Avs aren’t getting secondary scoring because we’re currently playing guys as 2nd line players before we know for sure they even
– AJ, you call Florida Colorado-esque, yet expect Colorado to dominate them all night. Honestly with the current Avs roster I’m not expecting them to dominate anyone all night. All I want is consistent flashes of dominance.
– It’s not the travel that was an issue in the Washington game, it was the whole team playing as hard as they could the night before against the Stanley Cup champs.
– Florida is a decent team, but without Luongo and Barkov they shouldn’t beat the Avs
– I was reading Jost would be team captain for Canada if he was on the team. I think he should definitely go largely for that reason. I think he still has things to learn and could use the confidence. I’d say the same for Gerard, but I think he’d steal Makar or Timmins’ (potential) spot
– Overall though I think the Avs will keep Jost because they have basically no forward depth.
– Bernier has the ability to steal games. Any goalie with sufficient talent does.
– My first suggested change to the offside rule: if a player shoots it into the zone and touches it themselves within 2 seconds, that counts as continuous possession.
– My second change would be: the offside rule only applies to the player who touches the puck – you can’t touch the puck if you were already in the zone when the puck entered the zone. The only problem I see with this change is that it might be tough for the linesmen to keep track of who has and has not left and re-entered the zone
– I’m loving Wilson lately (I wrote this part after the Florida game as well).
– Wilson is a modern power forward when he’s playing well – he’s not a fighter or an agitator but he plays strong and physical. My hope is he can be basically a poor man’s Gary Roberts.
– The Pens game was basically a perfect road game by a worse team – great goaltending and basically mistake-free hockey.
– With Barberio, I either want him traded or re-signed. I don’t want him leaving for nothing. I think he’s one of those guys like Hunwick who will stick around the league as a bottom 4 guy for a long time.
– AJ likes the Sens? Oh *you’re* the one.
– Bernier is better than he has shown this year. I expect his save percentage to go up as the year goes on.
– Every Avs fan needs to cheer for Ottawa to end up as the 11th worst team in the league, but no matter what that Duchene trade is looking even better every day.
– There is no way on earth Ottawa gives us their pick this year if they finish bottom 10. Think of the message that sends to the fanbase: “we plan to be even worse next season”
– Here’s the problem with AJ’s plan for Ottawa. The following players have No Trade Clauses of one kind or another: Bobby Ryan, Mike Hoffman, Derick Brassard, Clarke MacArthur, Zach Smith, Alex Burrows, Nate Thompson, Dion Phaneuf, Erik Karlsson, and Johnny Oduya
– If Pierre Dorion trades one of their top prospects he should be fired instantly
– Thanks for the podcast guys
