Nels
I totally agree with you Bgravs. Where is AD? Why are you guys not talking about league news and how it relates to the Avs? Or training stuff? You didn’t even watch the 3 on 3 Avs prospect tournament at dev camp? The entire dev camp coverage was weakness. I’m calling you out to help make you stronger. Also I paid my $2.95/month or whatever and I want action! STEP UP YO!
PK
Frederick Douglass would be better imo 😛

While I do not dispute that the Avalanche could do a much better job of relating to fans when it comes to ticket sales I wanted to state some facts that were not apparent in this podcast. 1st ticket prices. The Avs set ticket prices in January and send renewals to season ticket holders in early February each year. Therefore it is not accurate to say they set ticket prices AFTER the 48 point season. The prices were set in the middle of the season and while they knew the season was bad they did not know how bad at that point. I wanted to put some perspective on the Avs ticket prices so I went to Google to find out the average ticket price. Most of what I found was the average secondary market price which is not valid for this conversation. I did find a site called Statistica which gave the average price for 2014/15 as just under $48.00. If we use $50 as the average price and there are 18,007 seats for hockey and assume every home game is a sellout then the GROSS revenue per game is $900,350.00 and for the 41 game home season the total maximum GROSS revenue would be $36,914,350.00. I do not have the information needed to calculate the net but even the gross is below the annual salary cap. Certainly there are other sources of revenue such as TV money and souvenir revenue but it is hard for me to see that being enough for a large profit
As a season ticket holder I can say that I receive 15% off merchandise at the team store. I receive a discount on parking only paying $9 per game. I receive 6 complimentary tickets each season (subject to certain blackout dates) which I can use any way I want such as 6 single tickets for six different games or 6 tickets for a single game and anything in between. I use these as six single game tickets for my brother who lives out of town and he always sits in a seat of equal or better value to my season seat and in fact the last couple of years he has sat in the seat next to mine. And, of course, season ticket holders receive a discount on their tickets. This covers most of the innovations Jesse said he would like to see.

I enjoyed this, thanks guys keep it up.

Adam Foote is obviously the Teddy Roosevelt of the Avs
Nels
I might agree with Foote, or Hejduk. Maybe a Two-Face kind of combination mountain sculpture. Jesse…..sigh…..you say the most ridiculous things, I love it 🙂 You got heart kid. Also did you guys know that rushmore is carved into the sacred mountain of the natives that we treated like – jews, living in naziville?
Nels
Why the #$%^ is AD not on any of these? I don’t care how many articles he’s writing, tell him to get his @ss to a mic. Please. Pretty Please. For the love of god. I’m getting sick of the youngsters.
Nels
Great podcast guys, really enjoyed it.

You forgot Theo Fleury! 24 points in 15 regular season games.

I personally do not care what a teams social media game is like. I only care about what their on ice product is like. As an Avs fan I am so glad I got to experience a championship twice and have replica Stanley Cup banners to hang on my office wall and not stuck being a Rockies fan who only has a fun twitter account banner to hang on their wall.
My ticket buying focus is on the front office/GM and not marketing. When the product is worthy of the cost doesn’t matter what smoke and mirrors the ticket/promotion department tries to distract me with.

I’m late to this but the ‘Avs did little to bring back the fans’ discussion was pretty far off the mark. The $15 tickets were called Avalanche Rush, were advertised enough that they sold out if you tried to get more later in the day and I used them to see every Pepsi Center game last season except for 1 and had plenty of friends who used them. They were usually in the upper bowl but almost always on the attack twice end. 10 – 15 of the sets I got were in the lower bowl. For the Winnipeg ‘double overtime’ game (when MacKinnon had to score twice because one was overturned) we were in 126, row 15 – i.e. $130 seats. For 15 dollars. For the Edmonton game they were in the Club section. It all depended on where they had seats left over.
Then there are the Ice Breaker season tickets – 2 seats in the top 6 rows of the attack once end for $999. Including pre-season games that works out to $11.35 per ticket. I’ve heard some claim this is the single best deal in the NHL. Last year it was a better price than Carolina had for a similar deal. They’re continuing it this year and I bought 2 sets together at the end of a row in 318.
As far as Cutthroats bus bench ads, did you guys somehow miss the full size billboards all over town? I can name at least 5 locations, I’m sure there were more. My kids used to rank their favorites (#1 was the one with Landy where the controlled access piece of 6th Avenue terminates into downtown, #2 was the one with the fan with the dreadlocks on West Colfax).
I’m sure the Avs could have done more but they did more than you guys seemed to give them credit for.
