Regarding the “Pittsburgh Model” that you guys mention Burke debunking, this is from a comment threat on another site but it’s pure gold and needs to be seen widely:

The Pittsburgh model: 1) Be handed generational talent on silver platter. 2) Pretend to be God’s gift to hockey and model franchise for the duration of said player’s career. 3) Player retires, team sucks, fans abandon team, be on the verge of relocation, smoke inside local diner eating scrapple with ketchup on it. 4) Repeat steps 1-3.

This works for both Lemieux/Jagr and Crosby/Malkin, hopefully it ends after that. Oh, and the “team sucks, fans abandon team, be on the verge of relocation” should actually be Step 1 as they were extremely close to re-locating to Seattle in the late 70’s and before they purposely (and admittedly) tanked to get Lemieux.
