This was the first game where I seriously disagreed with Dater and Haefele wrt how the Avs played. Unfortunately I don’t have time to go into specifics, but I’m curious as to how others felt.

I never agree with the constant ripping on Nieto. Nieto seems solid in both ends and like he usually has pretty good jump. I don’t agree that sometimes it’s like “oh there’s just nothing going on offensively”, not in this game at least. I thought the offense was electric alot of the time. The rookie/roomie/college line was quite exciting, the doghouse line had good chances, Johnson and Barrie had a ton of shots, and then there’s Mack. Other than that I thought they were right on. Except AD was way wrong about that first overtime goal. Morrissey hit it in.

‘@ Cerveau: I had a pretty lengthy response to your post. It was up for a while but has disappeared. And no, I didn’t first save it in a Word file.

Here is Av-a-dabba-doo’s first response:

I actually have disagreed with AJ & AD before (more the latter), though I hope they feel it has always been done respectfully. Here are the comments I sort of jotted down listening to this podcast:
– Rantanen did NOT touch that first (nullified) OT goal — sorry, Mr. Dater.
– I felt the overall level of the Avalanche’s play was better than our podcasters did. Not “superb”, but with many positives. I went away hopeful.
– Very much agree with Dater about several very skillful, well-timed passes that got us out of sticky situations. Love to see that!
– I think Dater and I (and whoever picked the game’s stars) were a little more impressed by Kerfoot in this one than was Haefele. BTW, his back-pass across was lovely.
– I’m starting to wonder if having B OTH Andrighetto AND Nieto is one too many roster spots for a fast-skating, skilled guy who is going to get out-muscled a lot against the boards. I think the dimension they bring to the game is good, but maybe not two-roster-spot good.
– EJ’s slash was almost comical — like he feels that if you’re going to do it, go full Paul Bunyan!
– Tad too hard on Yak, IMHO.
– Is Dater just in the habit (still) of calling Var-LA-mov, VAR-la-mov? Very minor point.
– Why does the podcast have the sponsors they do? (Cannabis & bookies?) Were there no other sponsor options (like Total Beverage)? At least it’s not Sammy’s Sex Toys … yet. 😉

Thanks for the ‘save’ of my OP, Cerv. I don’t know how you did it. My theory is that when I make a list (the dashes, bullet points), that format triggers a response that eats my post — so I’m going to try not to do that anymore. Again, thank you very much. I just didn’t want to take the time to write it all again.

Welcome, Avva.
I am MAGIC… super programmer wiz!!! Genius!!!
(NOT)
Seriously though:
It was easy… I got some email from Discus indicating you had replied, and there was your long response.
So it seems the system recorded your response and emailed it to me before you accidentally deleted it.

If only it was slways that easy…

For what it’s worth on the power play in the 1st period Berrie took a shot from the blue line in the center of the ice that got through and just missed the net by a hair to the right of the goal tender. The goalie was completely screened and wasn’t covering that side of the net.

The Barrie discussion is ground hog day. He will play great in games suited to him, and can win games, by his great offensive play. He will lose games with bad skating and poor defensive play. He can do both in a single game, and be the best and worst player on the ice. He can have a month of great games, then have a month of bad ones. If Sakic chooses to look at his upside, and keep him, the Avs likely will forever be the up/down team, it is.

The Avs inconsistency mirrors Barrie’s game. I don’t think it’s all Barrie’s fault, but just saying if they
keep the guy for the long run, the Avs will not likely be a true contender.
