I know playing the what if game is stupid but how did the Avs not pull the trigger on that Flames trade.

So the Avs take the top RHD in the draft Charlie McAvoy.
Now with the 35th and 40th pick you take the best forward and goalie to re stock.
35th pick RW Jordan Kyrou and 40th pick G Carter Hart.
(Kyrou was picked 35th by Blues via Flames)
(Hart was picked 48th by Flyers)
Avs now need to sign a free agent goalie with $5.9 freed up from trading Varlamov.
Avs sign James Reimer beating out Panthers $3.4 offer.
