First time I’ve turned off one of these early. That horse was dead 5 minutes in, at 20 minutes I’d had enough. Maybe have a cup of Strava Coffee first before you start the next one.

“Hopefully they’re back early in the year” are the exact words Sakic used regarding Z and Nemeth. Not “start of the season” but “early in the year.” “Hopefully.” I think this explains throwing a bunch of money at Ian Cole. The only other viable option was de Haan and he’s not exactly the guy you want as an insurance policy for two guys coming off shoulder surgery. It’s not optimal but at least it isn’t Jack Johnson for five freaking years. As Dater points out we’re probably getting the best 2-3 years of Cole’s career so that makes it a bit more palatable.

2.8 million for Matt freaking Calvert is another story. Can’t we develop our own 4th plugs? Why do we have to import Columbus’ and pay them ridiculous, stupid money? The only possible explanation I have is that Sakic wants to match Vegas’ high energy voracious forechecking game and he thinks Calvert will help get the Avs there.

I am in agreement with AJ and partly AD on Cole, Jesse you are putting alot of faith in every single defenceman prospect turning out to be NHLers. yes they are trending up right now but they are no guarantee. Also in 2 years Barbs is likely gone, so is Alt. that leaves room for the youngsters. Also if needed the AVS can push any of Barbs, Alt, or Nemeth down to the Eagles to play veteran role down there. i have no issue with the Cole signing.

Great show guys, really enjoyed it. I didn’t hear any over-reaction. If anything, under-reaction. $2.8 for a 4th line guy is ridiculous.

Look we got 2 good goalies. We got good deep defense. We got the top line in hockey/Mack. We got Matt freakin Calvert. I say Denver better start making Cup parade plans 🙂

These are solid signings for the Avs. Calvert will probably play 3rd line/4th line. People get WAYYYYYYY too hung up on salary numbers. 2.8m is nothing for a 3rd/4th line UFA guy. Great signing in my opinion. Jesse was beyond overreacting to “no space for the kids”. Well the kids need to prove it first. Makar isn’t playing for the Avs this year, who even knows if he wants to go pro at the end of this year. People sure thought he would go pro this year. You cant pencil in these kids who have proved nothing. Getting a solid 4-6 dman is a great move for this organization. Love these moves. Now to go get a scoring winger!
