Roy was a great player but not much of a head coach. In his own way he is making the team worse. Time to go…..I hope Joe is listening.
Umm, really? There’s definitely some things wrong with the Avs, but I think coaching is near the bottom of that list. The Avs are right where most thought they would be, if not better actually. I think that when the players on this team show up, they’ve shown they can beat the better teams in the league. Roy and Sakic have dramatically shifted the future outlook of this team for the better, considering that, why try to short circuit that process by firing Roy? Seems like a really bad overreaction to me.
I don’t agree. Whilst Roy has not been entirely conventional in some of his approaches, I don’t think he’s making the team worse. I think he should stay the course and see where the Avs are. If you were going to fire Roy, who would you replace him with? Mike Yeo?
I don’t see much better alternatives, to be honest.The one, simple change I’d like to see made would be to have the team fire the puck much more than they do. Currently, they sit at 25th in the league, in shots taken and for a team that has Duchene and Mackinnon, that’s too low.
Other changes would be an age-old issue for the Avs – a top ranking D-man, or even a decent 2nd pairing guy. A genuine left winger would be nice as well.
