I saw the Avs on the ice right before my stick and puck session! EJ looked great. Keep up the good work on the podcasts boys.

I think the whole issue about the use of tablets by the players and coaches was not correctly portrayed in the arguement between Adrian and Jesse. I believe the process on the team bench is something like this:

The Avs have video staff sitting at some kind of console during the game where there is access to all the video of the play. It is their job to anticipte the coach’s need to look at a questionable call for the purpose of a challenge. They use the console to view the vaious angles and communicate via earpiece to the coaches whether or not it is worthy of a challenge and transmits the proper video to he bench tablet for the coach to see. Often this all must happen quite rapidly as the on ice officials are not going hold up continuing the game very long while the coaches make their decision.

The point here is that the coaches on the bench are not using the tablet to call up replays from various angles but rather the video coach and as much staff as the team decides to devote to the task are at the console(s) doing the work. Likewise on plays not demanding replay evaluation players can ask the video staff to see a particlar replay on the tablet.

I don’t think the NHL spotters have that kind support resource being provided to them. Not that it is impossible to do just that the time and resources are not given to the spotters.

I couldn’t even finish this. It’s very irritating listening to Jesse talk about the league needing new rules. But I get irritated listening to anyone talk about new rules. I wish you guys would do some shows about things that are actually happening or did happen this summer:

Your dev camp coverage was incredibly weak. You didn’t even have anyone at the 3 on 3, and now there’s “no hockey to talk about”? Come on now, there’s better reporting in the comments on a lot of these.

Geez Jesse… Did I miss a news story where the spotter system caused a cushion issue? That was hysterical. Back to hockey guys.
