As I listen to this: AD doesn’t like snap judgements on players and then proceeds to make snap judgements on Martin Kaut and the second line.

I am a believer the Avs should not get Nylander. Let’s just look at this year and history. Nylander gets 60 points through 60 games with the Avs tomorrow, yea that’s awesome. Let’s also look at Mikko being a top 5 scorer in the league if the top line continues their play. Nylander wants 8 mil and let’s say the Avs pay 8 for all intents and purposes. What do you pay Mikko this offeseason? You’re looking at a future cap situation like Edmonton’s where you’re in trouble down the line. (Nylander won’t come close to Lucic’s contract but I digress) it puts us in a bad situation. If Timmins is healthy and he and Meloche are destroying the AHL, to where the two could play 2nd D line minutes to where you could easily move Nemeth and Barbs out and then its a conversation where you could possibly move Barrie and Z.
With guys like Kaut and Bowers coming along nicely and you expect Makar to follow his UMASS career, which has been dominant this year, to where he could continue that in the NHL, than yes we have that conversation. But we won’t know Makars stats in the spring when the time to get Nylander has most likely past.
Now, let’s say OTT gets hot and by the trade deadline and they’re middle of the pack (and for this let’s say the Avs are too but I hope the Avs won’t be) do any of you see the Avs moving one of the two picks, along with either Barrie or Z at the deadline to help either now or down the road within 2-3 years?

When Seattle enters the league which Pacific division team makes the move to central? I doubt they keep 9 teams in 1 division, so does Edmonton, Calgary, or Phoenix get the move? Does the league give them an option or is it do as I say kind of deal?

The rumor is that Arizona will move. They’ll never break up the Battle of Alberta rivalry. I think it makes more sense to move the Alberta teams to the Central and move us to the Pacific. It maintains the Alberta rivalry plus throws WPG in with them, fosters a potential VGK / ARI rivalry and adds us to that mix. It also makes more sense for travel for several of the Pacific and Canadian teams.
On the other hand putting ARI in the Central sets them up nicely for a potential move to Houston.

The Fridge (Elliot Friedman) recently talked about the potential for a new playoff format on 31 thoughts
where teams seated in 7,8 (the current wildcard sports) and 9,10 (the next two teams) would play each other in a best of 3 series to determine the 2x wildcard teams.
I think he mentioned 7 would play 10 ; 8 would play 9
Apparently the Commish isn’t on board, and there isn’t any immediate talks about changing the existing playoff format.
What do you guys think?
I like the concept, but am also of the opinion that it aint broke – so no need to fix it..

After recently changing jobs and now working nights after 3 years of days, how much does jet lag and changing sleep schedules effect guys? It’s killing me still after 3 months. Are they just used to it? Also, our NCAA rookies hit a wall last season and it showed. Is there still concern for that this year? Is one year in the NHL enough to fully condition them for the 82 game schedule?

Why don’t we see more people taking the route of Hossa, who signed multiple 1 year deals in search of a cup, then signed long term after the success in Chicago? Do you see Matt Duchene giving that a chance by signing a lower cost long term deal with a conteding team?

Compeer, Zadorov, Greer, and Grigorenko to St Louis for O’ Reilly. Do the Blues and Avs take that trade? If so or if not, can we render a final grade? I understand it’s not purely a black-and-white value assessment, so maybe address the off-the-ice part with O’ Reilly?

How do you guys decide who travels to which away games? I’ve noticed that AD has done most of the traveling this year, as you mentioned this is AJ’s first time on the road this year. Just curious on the process. Also, are there any significant ways in which working an away game differs from working a game at Pepsi Center? I’m always so interested in the behind the scenes details of what you all do. Thanks!
