Boy, can’t imagine why Duchene was hesitant to open up and talk more than he did with Dater, can you? He’s still sore about Sweden, because (and I quote), “it was a wasted opportunity to kick Duchene and prove that you hated him and that he was the reason you underachieved”. Just wow. Actually starting to be a bit concerned.

I personally feel no need to “kick” Duchene. I have no ill feelings toward him. I don’t think there was any intent on his part agaist the Avs and I believed him when he said nothing that happened was personal. The team appears to have turned the page regarding him so we obervers should do so as well. We won’t see Ottawa again in the regular season and barring a trade by Ottawa or some kind of miracle playoff run by the Avs he won’t be on our radar again until next season.

– I am official fine with Gerard staying with the team. The kid is for real. Maybe not first pair for real, but I don’t want to see our powerplay without him any more.
– The goalie interference penalty was fine if you understand the rules. Nieto interfered with the goalie getting into position. You don’t have to actually hit the goalie – you just have to influence the goalie’s movements in a way that prevents him from making the save. Consider: the right play for the goalie there was to keep to his left while looking for the puck. Had he done that, he would have collided with Nieto, so instead he looked to his right and the puck went in. It may not be the most obvious call in the world, but it’s not a terrible call like people are saying.
– Dater is disappointed they didn’t prove in Sweden that they hated Duchene. What if they didn’t? Are we seeing a bit of a projection of AD’s true feelings here or what?

– I’ll eat some crow. I expected Rantanen (and Ghetto) to struggle this season).
– I don’t see a problem with Matt Nieto as a 4th liner. I think he’s a prototypical 4th liner in the new NHL. Fast, works hard, kills penalties, and can chip in with some offensive chances now and again. I think as long as you don’t look for Nieto to be anything other than a 4th liner you won’t be disappointed. The issue right now is he plays with Soderberg, who is certainly not a 4th liner based on his recent play.
