Do you guys think super stars like Connor McDavid etc. will stop practicing during the regular season to stay fresh for playoffs, for example like LeBron James does ?

That would seem like a good way to destroy team chemistry. There is already some grumbling among fans about some players getting special treatment. The NHL does not need NBA type prima donas in my opinion.

Dater: I can convert that VHS to Digital, if you haven’t found any body to do it yet.

I would LOVE to see some of those old games again.

I’ve noticed Rantanen using Forsberg’s reverse hit move more and more to maintain puck control. Has anybody talked to him about this? Does he study Forsberg’s game or just instinctive?

You might have talked about this on the podcast (sorry, at work and can’t listen) but if not. Do you think Q replaces Yeo in St. Louis? If so, how nervous should Avs fans be? Thanks guys, keep up the great work. Mega dittos.

Any inside knowledge on why all the players sprinted to the dressing room after the win? Do you guys know if they had a win and we go out in LA kind of plan?! Being a fly on the wall and getting an inside look at the personalities is always interesting.

At the quarter mark of the season, which teams do you predict finish behind Ottawa in the standings?

Man, one person mentions the idea of trading someone and then he’s on the trade block. Do we just need to constantly have a player that’s surrounded by trade rumors? I honestly think that had a bit to do with why Matt Duchene wanted out. He probably let it get to him but I remember rumors of him for years. Hopefully this doesn’t get to Z.

Yep, I’d bet the trade rumors really weighed on Duchene.
Of all the things I loved about him and his play, his inability to get out of his own head wasn’t one of them.
He struggled with himself off/on. Hearing/reading trade rumors like that for well over a year must have felt like piling on to him.

Hey guys, I don’t think Z is about to be traded and I sure as hell don’t want him to be traded – he’s a little bit of maturity away from being an upper echelon NHL D in my mind. Having said that, Darren Dreger on Insider Trading and Elliotte Friedman in 31 thoughts are not equivalent to some guy on Twitter with 2k followers obviously making shit up, most of it about the Leafs. Especially when Friedman wrote that thing in 31 Thoughts and Dreger said what he did on Insider Trading a day apart and Friedman’s blurb was written *before* Z was benched in the Boston game (it came out that morning):

6. Something to watch: Ice time for Colorado’s Nikita Zadorov (15:40 per game) is down almost four minutes from 2017–18. It is by far the lowest of his career. Zadorov came a long way last season after being a healthy scratch on opening night. He’ll be 24 in April, and is a restricted free agent. Have not heard his name in any trade rumours, and there aren’t too many like him. Let’s see where this goes.

I think it’s fairly legitimate speculation (if such a thing exists) to wonder why Elliotte Friedman would be sitting up in Toronto looking at Nikita Zadorov’s ATOI unless someone alerted him to something. There’s probably not anything there but it’s a little disingenuous to compare it to some of those clowns who obviously just make stuff up.

Having said all that, great podcast once again. Thanks Jesse for saying that the Varly water bottle thing was simply superstition, I’ve been wondering for a long time. It’s not hard to miss someone sliding that thing across the ice during the first whistle of every period.

Agree — I don’t want Z going anywhere either. And I also agree that he’s only got to grow into things a bit more to really start shining.
As far as the TOI goes — I’d guess that’s because of Girard and Cole ahead of him. If he wants more ice time, he needs to play well enough that Bednar has to give it to him.

Last year, Kerfoot’s sh% and other advanced stats seemed to indicate he was getting lucky. Is Kerf’s early season success more sustainable this year, or is he getting lucky again?

Per that tweet (not sure how credible the source is), the Seattle Expansion Draft may be in 2021.

If so, how bad does that hit the Avs? Since I believe a March debut would have Makar exempt from 2020 but not 2021.

It’s a long ways away to plan for and a lot can change, but I’m curious what your thoughts are and what some strategies could be to overcome that draft!
