Hey, no matter what happens we all have to be proud of the turnaround of Avs. This has been a fun team to watch grow and develop this year. I’ll be proud even if they don’t make the playoffs.

I honestly don’t care if they make the playoffs or not. It would be nice, and selfishly, I’d love to see the Avs play a playoff game or two. But this season has been such a pleasant surprise, and the future is bright either way.

My preseason prediction was more pessimistic than yours or AJ’s; I thought they’d get around 75 points. The fact they are over 90 and could finish as high as 97 is so far above any expectation I had that this season is already stamped a success in my book, regardless of how it ends. That said, nobody ever likes finishing in the “mushy middle”; too good for high draft pick, but not good enough for a playoff spot. So let’s hope they seal the deal and finish strong.

At the beginning of the season the expectations for this team were to recover from last season and put up a respectable number of points. But with their play and ability to overcome adversity they changed that expectation so that there will be disappointment if they miss the playoffs. But if that happens next September they can look back at what they accomplished with pride and use it as fuel for the new season.

I’ve been a “just get in the playoffs” advocate in 2018 too, and that would be great. But two teams, Edmonton and Calgary have sneaked in the last few years and it doesn’t seem to have made them particularly formidable in follow on years. Would be nice to know the young guys have seen the intensity, however.
