I *love* the opening paragraph.

That, fans, is a well researched piece of sports journalism.

Whoa! not only a quality, quality write-up with the usual Dater wry humor (humour?) but the stats and quotes. How did you get this up so soon? Looks like Rants & Landy are indeed fully recovered from their late-season injuries. Makar is a difference maker. Strange as it sounds I think adding him and seeing how he responded in his first game will give the team a confidence boost throughout the playoffs.

Have a restful night’s sleep AD.

Can we just talk about how (aside from EJs high stick in game 1) the Avs have been SO disciplined after the whistle? Calgary seems to only want to play the role of the goon, the Avs do not respond. Except when they have to and even then, we only get a matching 2 minutes when they take a 2 and a 10. I think this is a huge factor right now

Ian Cole talked about that after the game. He said the Flames are trying to get them to take dumb retaliatory penalties, but that – while they can’t let themselves get bullied – they can’t take the bait either.

Awesome! I think they’re doing a great job of that. It seems like a last ditch effort from the flames to throw the Avs off, and it’s impressive that it hasn’t worked. Especially when the power play is finally clicking, it only plays more into our hands

Wojtek Wolski scored a goal and had two assists in his first NHL game against Dallas in the 2006 playoffs. During the game they mentioned that Makar was the first to do this as a Nordique/Av and Dater has this written here as well, but I remember watching that in 2006 and being hyped for Wolski. Wolski also wore 8, maybe it’s a number thing…
Also, I could be wrong about this and not remembering correctly, but Google agrees with me from what I’ve seen.

It wasn’t Wolski’s first NHL game though. He played nine games in that regular season

Yeah, I knew I could have remembered it incorrectly. I couldn’t get a clear answer from the searching I did online, but man I was so sure. Thanks for clarifying AD! I honestly look forward to the comment section of these articles as much as the articles themselves.

Awesome game by the Avs! Critical that they scored on the 5v3. Really set the tone. Loved the domination of Calgary. Avs discipline was good, as Keith Jones said on NBCSN the other night, “the best thing you can do to an agitator like M. Tkachuk is to ignore them”. It will make Tkachuk and whoever go crazy. Still like to see some improvement in faceoffs for the rest series. nit picky after last nights performance, but critical going forward for continued domination. I like seeing Jost get some chances, I think he is going to surprise us and be the talent that we hoped for. Hopefully sooner than later. Awesome for Makar. The concern about burning a year of his ELC went out the window with his first game winning playoff goal. Way cool. Great to be up 2-1, let’s hope they keep it rolling on Wednesday nite.

Now, that was a really, really enjoyable game to watch. Great writeup. I think that Zadorov was an unsung hero in this game. He made no real mistakes and when he was on the ice the Flames burned low. His physical presence is a critical part of this team.
