After watching the Rockies implode after letting go of CarGo and Gerardo Parra (big locker room guys), losing those guys even if they don’t play very much is a much bigger impact than most realize. See the Nationals winning the World Series and turning the season around when they signed Parra midseason. Gives you depth and versatility, but most importantly helps grow the culture they’ve built. I’m a fan of the signing

CarGo and Parra were also players who were making some positive contributions on the field still but this is a very good example of what happens when you undervalue guys who have fun playing the game and the levity they help bring to a locker room.

Another great read. I think it’s all about the person and not the player. Like you said, that’s huge and I’m happy for him. Let’s go!!!

I’m definitely not strong with advanced stats, and a big reason I subscribe is your breakdown – backing up opinions with meaningful data, and not selective data, is huge – thank you AJ. I think another key metric beyond how he affects teammates on the ice, if could be calculated, is his affect on teammates while on the bench, or even dressed but ready for the next game particularly in the playoffs. I think of some of our smaller skill players, and how we’ve seen them loose assertiveness in the playoffs; and guys like MacKinnon and Landy sitting in the box for fighting, or missing games from fighting injuries. I definitely see a big difference in our play against rough and dirty teams – if such a metric existed, I’m sure it wouldn’t look like a gunshot wound.

Well, you don’t want Landy being your enforcer.

I like that he’s an enforcer but doesn’t go around gooning it up for no reason at the end of a game
