I thought the only player to show positive to expectation was Timmins, who got progressively better and was poised with some great awareness. All else were either meh, same ol same ol, or just lousy. Comparatively on the Avs, Jost was OK, but he wasn’t scintillating, and Vegas had about 5 forwards who had better games than him. Byram getting 5 minutes more than any other Av was good(24:50). He had a meh game, but gotta keep sending him in thru the preseason and 9 games to get a real looksie on the 18 year old. It was both players first NHL competition games, as Timmins looked better than Byram, who had a few major gaffes. I thought the forwards did little to help the blue line out, overall.

Perfect assessment.

It seemed like Avs rookies pitted against a more NHL calibre Vegas team. There were moments I felt the Avs were doing well but still inexperienced, whereas Vegas seemed more pro, and playing like a team, not just a bunch of kids “playing their game”.
Sparks was pretty damn good.
I felt frustrated with the Avs power play, more just passing the puck around.
All in all, still a valuable experience for all concerned, rookies and coaches alike.
I’m looking forward to seeing the Avs vets starting to come in.

For those of us who watched on the radio, can you describe Greer’s night?

It was okay. Was part of some good chances but couldn’t finish any of them off. Good effort, good process, lacking results. Disappointing overall but he wasn’t the worst guy out there.

It seems like last night’s lines and defensive pairs hadn’t been together before in camp. If so, I can see where that could make it difficult for young guys knowing they have a limited opportunity to impress. I can also see where that could be the staff’s deliberate plan.
