this is good writing right here!!!!! this is what the people questioning Bednar, including myself, need to read and hear about the coach. that he does something seemingly so small, but means so much. thanking a player like that is a sign of a classy individual. I still dont like the quote he gave, seems he has a phobia from praising players after they’ve done a really good job. and I think Varly was outstanding and absolutely stole the game w some of those second chance saves he was denying Florida. but again, its good to hear the coach isnt aloof and appreciates his players, thank you Dates! wait.. can I call you Dates? just say yes!

“he has a phobia from praising players after they’ve done a really good job.”

But if he said that Varly “stole” the game, it would imply that the team would have lost had it not been for Varly’s outstanding play. I think that would have been throwing the rest of the team under the bus in order to praise the goalie. Personally, I’m beginning to like Bednar’s even-keel approach to everything, and I think the team is starting to adopt that – never too high, never too low.

Prime Varly is something special — and that’s what I saw last night. Poor Girard must feel even worse that his glaring bungle marred his goaltender’s would-be shutout.

Another big help for Varly was that the team did not “turtle” after the 3rd period goal. In past years it would have been a shot fest with Varly at the receiving end.

Ha ha, yep — like a shooting gallery.
