Great work AD. The Avs coverage alone continues to make this site an amazing value. I’ve gifted subs to family members and they love it too. Keep up the great job you guys are all doing, not every sports market is as well-served!

I think something major happened internally. Joe might have met with the team and said, “look guys, we believe in you, we trust in you, and we know you guys are a tight bunch. We like the team’s trajectory and we don’t want to trade anyone. But if something doesn’t change right now, there are going to have to be some changes.”

This is pure speculation of course, but this came out of nowhere. This team is playing with desperation again and they’re playing for one another again. It’s fun and amazing to watch and I have to give management and coach Bednar (with the line mixups) a lot of credit. As well as the players, of course, too.

PS. can’t wait to see Cale! (and maybe Kaut?)

The Avs are a bit of mystery box, aren’t they? I think pretty much the vast majority of the fans thought they had gone into tank mode. Then again, most of the fans following them closely also saw that they were a mixed bag of sorts on most nights. That certainly was the case when I had the chance to see them vs the Islanders.

What has changed since then? Obviously the goaltending and the defense have gotten back on track – that’s probably 50% right there. But it also looks to me that breaking up the all-star first line has made our offense less predictable. And finally, the other forwards on our team have stepped up big time: Compher, Jost, Kerfoot, Andrighetto, Nieto have improved markedly, whereas previously, only Soderberg and Calvert seemed to perform with consistency

I also noticed our players reviewing their plays on the bench via tablet a lot more. I am not sure if that is a recent novelty, but it’s surely indicative of a more interactive approach to coaching. I’d be curious if BSN has more insight on that.

Well written and entertaining. I’ve been an Avs fanatic since 95′ and have enjoyed your coverage from the beginning, although I disagree with you every once in a while. I’m cheap and don’t subscribe to anything. But following you to BSN has proven worthy of my money.

Great compliment, thanks. Hell, I don’t always agree with myself either. And I, too, am cheap.

I cannot imagine what would prompt the Avs to trade Zadorov. There is no one on that team that brings what he does, and in fact very few in the league. Their are periods of lack of discipline which hurt the team but overall, he makes a difference and he’s getting better.

Great read AD. I admire Girard’s patience with the puck; where in the world did he learn such a thing? I also love how the Avs of late seem to be a team who don’t give up on the plays.
