I didn’t expect the Avs to turn it up like they have over the last few weeks. But today’s game kind of epitomizes that slow and painful transformation they seem to have undergone: the bottom eight/nine forwards as well as the d-men are contributing on the scoresheet. And more importantly the defensive side has been shored up by way of better goaltending and overall better defensive coverage. Finally, the Avs are scoring first. Chasing the lead was really wearing them down earlier in the year.

It’s awesome that he’s a nice guy, but he’s not a good hockey player. Yes it’s heartless but he should be in the AHL right now. For what he lacks in d Greer is much, much better on O.

If Greer wants to play for the Avs all he has to do is what Bourque is doing: give full effort and play his butt off every minute he gets. All you need to do is look at Bednar’s comments from tonight and from the night he talked about consistency being a skill. It isn’t enough say/believe Greer is better on O, he has to be at his best every moment when he gets the opportunity. Thus far he hasn’t.

This is spot on. Excellent observation.

I’m the first to complain about Bourque in the lineup. Yes he is a great guy. Yes he kills penalties. But NO, to him being anymore than your 14th or 15th forward.

I have been ruthless on Barrie and somewhat on Bourque. Barrie is a clone of Sergei Gonchar, pretty skater, effective if not brilliant at times on offense, often brutal on defense. Probably the best offensive-defensemen of the 90s and early 2000s. Barrie bleeds Avalanche burgundy, however, and is the funniest guy on the team (a chip off his old man’s block). I also remember when he got hurt (cheap shot by Neeno Niedereiterolvski?) against the Wildlings in the 2014 playoffs the series turned in favor of the Wildlings. The bottom line is w/o Rants and Landy the team needs his offense and he has been lights out for the past week or so. I will thus hold off on demanding his trade until and unless he coughs up a big one in the playoffs.
Congrats to Bourque…every team needs cap friendly players who step up…as you pointed out he had a huge series against the Preds last year…hope he can continue the success.
