This is a show me year. It should be an ultimatum to show progress, meaning raising the Cup. If it doesn’t happen, Bednar shouldn’t have gotten an off season extension because it becomes obvious he’s taken the Avs as far as he can. To get the extension now is poor GMing.

Simply, some coaches peak out before the playoffs and aren’t capable of getting their teams mentally tough enough or have adaptability to raise the Cup. I don’t believe Bednar has the whatever quality it is to win a championship in the NHL.

If he does. Great! But to give him an in season extension of 2 more years even if he fails? Both the timing and the reasoning is wrong. Joe’s gotta be tougher than that.

Let Jared prove it and if he proves it, extend him in the off season. Otherwise, Joe is saying he’ll settle for good regular seasons and failures for the next 3 playoffs.

There has to be accountability at this point for Jared and Joe and that means winning a championship.

It’s a bad optic in management of any sports team or management in general. Whatever the goal is for management, it must be determined and met. The goal in sports is to win. If you give the coach a premature extension for quite possibly losing, and not meeting the requirement of the job, you’re not doing it right.

I’m not a Bednar hater, but You made some good points.

Maybe showing cinfidence in the coach (and the group) and not going through the year with a lame duck coach helps get over the mental hurdle. We’ll see.

Isn’t Bednar the longest tenured Avs coach at this point?
