I mean…I see the fit and how it makes sense. And yeah, we were begging for more grit versus Dallas last year after we lost Calvert.

I have to say though that I reeaaaallly dislike this guy. Going into the 2019 playoffs against the Flames, I remember thinking the Avs fans were going to really grow to hate Tkachuk over the series. Instead, to me, it was Bennett that proved to be the real ass. Dirty, and whiny too.

Yeah, yeah, it’s hockey, you need sandpaper, and the Avs have had plenty of guys like this before. But man, isn’t there a line between a gritty pest and a player that appears to be actually trying to injure the other team? (Bennett’s most famous dirty hit was on Radim Simek if folks want to google).

So yeah, he may help, but if it were up to me, I’d look elsewhere.

Just looked up that hit you referenced, didn’t look egregious to me. A tad late, possibly but he put his shoulder in the guys chest. Keep ya head up.

Wouldn’t he be just another brick in the wall for Kaut and Bowers to have an opportunity? Skeptical about this one.

Team focus at this point shouldn’t be on dragging prospects into the NHL. If they have an opportunity to bring someone in who brings something the team needs, they need to do it if the price is right. If Kaut/Bowers were providing it, they’d already be in the line-up. This is a contending team. The Avs have been rebuilding for so long I think we as fans need to catch up with how a contender operates.

Good point, but, Kaut did show reasonably well last year and was held back because they wanted to slide his ELC. He was not given a chance in his first game back. Ok, he has a penalty right off, but so did Dries and we know that Dries ceiling is in the basement parking garage. Teams that contend for longer than a short Stanley cup window know how to develop and get young players on ELC’s into their line up so they do not get blown up by the salary cap. The Avs need to give Kaut and Bowers a chance along with any other promising young prospect because we all know what is coming in terms of big contracts for 92, 8, 29, 95?, 4 and Grub if he earns it or another vet goalie. They can’t keep doing 2-4 mil 2-3 year contracts for bottom six guys for very much longer. They need to prove they can develop their prospects.

Lots of information to absorb here. He might be a decent fit, but a lot would depend on who goes the other way. Another factor is chemistry. I think it rattled the organization a but when Cole was traded recently and I’m not sure Bennett would gel with the team. But, hockey is a business. I’ll grab some popcorn and wait to see what happens.

It’d work for me. Bennett is a pain, and would help us, for certain, imo., especially playoff hockey.

Jost being the same only more cheap? I understand the money factor, but as a player they’re the same? I disagree.

Jost’s soft while Bennett is sandpaper…way more Calvert than Jost. Should have done the comparative stats with Jost instead of Compher, I’d think Bennett would be superior, by quite a bit. I’d trade Jost straight up for Bennett, any day.

Thanks for this write up AJ. Coming into this, the only thing I knew about Bennett is that I loved/hated him a couple years ago in the Avs/Flames series. Thought at the time that the Avs could use that kind of guy for a playoff drive. If there really is something to the “playoff performer” narrative, and if he’s got that game that he showed in that series, then I’d be thrilled to have him. But it comes down to cost, and if he can still be that guy. Two big ifs, and you wouldn’t really know the answer until the playoffs. But I could get real excited about him as a depth piece in the right circumstance.
