Great article AJ!
Hey, what did you think of Sampo Ranta’s first NHL game?
How do you think it might shake out for later games wrt Soderberg in line up etc?

Canadian broadcast with Elliot Friedman saying it was .7 seconds after the puck was away from Janmark, when Graves stepped in, so he didn’t think it was a late hit as generally the puck being 1 second away is considered late, and he didn’t believe Graves was late on the hit nor was it illegal.

NBC, on the other hand, screamed dirty hit immediately. But they’re promoting an equal footing game, like ridiculously so. Their praise of VGK was embarrassing and NBC needs to understand hockey and quit catering to ratings as their analysis.

VGK creates by winning those 50:50 pucks, and often they come out of those, so Graves finishing that check was a hockey play. Janmark was facing toward Graves, but didn’t see him, harder to pick up than the puck for Graves? I don’t think so. It was not a dirty hit.

Good article, AJ.

I thought the Graves hit on Janmark was a tad late, but on first watch, it was not easy to tell that the puck had been left behind when Nemeth locked Janmark up, so I could easily see Graves thinking that the puck was still being carried and that in completing the hit, he was doing his job. You are right though, that the damage to Janmark was the result of being just far enough from the wall that he went in awkwardly. One thing I was wondering is if Graves might face some consequence from the hit because Janmark was engaged with Nemeth and then Graves came in?

I see Reeves getting 3-4 games, but like you have stated, the rough stuff is all he adds to the games. The Knights might be better off starting someone else anyway.

On the Janmark hit, many of us who have played hockey have had an incident when checked near the boards. Playing club back at uni I got hit with a good check (I was admiring my clearing pass, all on me) and a clean check knocked me more angled into the boards. I was wearing a full plastic mask, and it saved my face and head. Hockey is dangerous, and those kind of hits happen, sadly. I hope he’s able to play again for Game 2. I also understand the Knights going after Ryan right after. But any review of the hit had to tell them it was unintentional and arguable as to a penalty.

To Reeves, can he really look himself in the mirror and say “that’s why I got started playing hockey as a kid”? Time to retire and take of MMA if he wants to pull that garbage. But something tells me even in 2021 he’ll get another job.

Makar and McKinnon are the difference in this series as the Vegas podcaster said. If they do that kind of stuff in 3 more games it doesn’t matter what Vegas or Fluery do, it’s over. Add the backhand lasers from the Moose and…still think Avs in 5-6 games. It might be the Lightning alone that can truly matchup. But you have to stay healthy and keep focused. 11 more to go.
